How to automate sales tax calculation

If your business needs to collect sales tax on products or services sold, our automated sales tax functionality calculates sales tax based on your customers state, county, city, and even district tax rates.

For fully taxable products you can choose to enable sales tax calculation by selecting the sales tax check box on the individual price option.

When sales tax is enabled, if this price option is selected the customers delivery address is used to calculate appropriate state, county, city and district taxes.

In addition you can choose to enable product-level tax rules for a subset of product categories. These categories are to be used for products that are either exempt from sales tax in some jurisdictions or are taxed at reduced rates. You do not need a product tax code for sales tax calculations on a product that is fully taxable.

An example of a product tax code that is available for use is:

42140000A0006

Durable Medical Equipment for home use without Prescription

You can also choose to assign a product tax code to products in your catalog. When a product tax code parameter is assigned on the product level, this will be used when calculating sales tax for a sales tax enabled pricing option.

You can find available product tax codes by going to:

Management/Billing/Tax Codes

In the event you have to create a manual tax override for a product tax code, you can click on the pencil icon for the tax code and add a Tax Override by indicating the State and Tax rate you wish to to be used.
