Overview
You can create notes in several places to streamline your workflow. In this article, we’ll cover the different places you can create a note as well as the information you can store in and link to a note.
Use caution when creating notes, you will not be able to edit a note. The only way to change a note is to delete it and redo it. Only users with the designated permissions are able to delete notes.
Where To Create a Note
Inside Patient Profiles, Orders, Inventory Items, or Invoices
Once you have opened the desired patient profile, order, inventory item, or invoice, click the blue plus sign in the top right.
Select the New Note option.
You can also click the Notes tab at the top of the record. This will display all associated notes and provide a space to enter a new note at the bottom.
Inside Tasks
To create a note inside a task, simply open the desired task. On the bottom right of the task screen, you will see space to enter a new note.
Filling out a Note
Subject
Patient profile and order notes require a subject. This is a category that the note belongs to or addresses. This can be useful when trying to organize or filter your notes.
Click Select Subject and choose the appropriate one from the dropdown when creating a note for patient profiles or orders.
Templates
Some types of notes allow you to use note templates to fill in text. This is useful if you have notes that are frequently written and would like to add the content with the click of a button. The templates available depend on the type of note you are making. To learn how to add and manage note templates, see the article Manage Note Templates.
Click Select Template and choose the appropriate one from the dropdown.
You can see the text for a template in the section above. You can edit the template contents as needed.
To remove a template, click the X next to the template name.
Note Contents
You can enter the content for all note types in the Type your note here… section. The area may look slightly different based on whether you are typing content for a task note or a patient note, but the process is the same.
Enter the desired information for your note. When you are done and have selected any other applicable options, click Submit. Once you have entered a note, you can not edit it, the only option is to delete a note and start again.
Pin a Note
Important notes can be "pinned" to the patient side bar for easy viewing. To pin a note, hover over it and click the thumbtack icon.
You can now find the note under Pinned Notes in the sidebar.
You can unpin a note by clicking the thumbtack icon again.
Delete a Note
Only users with the designated permissions are able to delete notes.
To delete a note, hover over the note and click the trashcan icon to the right. Use caution when deleting a note, this cannot be undone.
