Setting Up Your Topaz Signature Pad

How to install the Topaz software needed to capture signatures in NikoHealth, and what to check if your pad isn't connecting.

Overview

If you use a Topaz signature pad to capture signatures on delivery tickets and forms in NikoHealth, your computer needs Topaz software installed before the pad can connect to NikoHealth.

Note: Installing the pad's driver alone isn't enough. Most connection problems happen because some of the software below is missing. Complete all four steps in order.

Before you start

Make sure your computer meets these requirements:

  • Windows 10 or later (32-bit or 64-bit)

  • A supported browser: Google Chrome 88, Microsoft Edge 80, or Mozilla Firefox 68, or a newer version of any of these

  • .NET Framework 4.8 or later (most up-to-date Windows computers already have it)

  • Administrator access to the computer. If you don't have admin rights, ask your IT team for help.

Keep your Topaz pad plugged into a USB port on your computer.

If an older version of SigPlusExtLite is already installed, uninstall it before you begin.

Install Topaz's SigPlus Software

SigPlus is Topaz's core signature software.

  • For Topaz signature pads, you need SigPlus version 4.4.0.24 or later.

  • For Topaz GemView tablet displays, you need SigPlus version 4.4.101.1 or later.

If SigPlus is already installed, you usually don't need to install it again. If you need it, download the latest version here: SigPlus installer.

GemView users: When the installer asks for your model, choose TD-GVApps.

Install SigPlusExtLite Software

SigPlusExtLite™ is the software that connects your pad to your web browser. It offers a means to capture handwritten signatures for web applications running in the Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge browsers.

  1. Download the installer: SigPlusExtLite installer.

  2. Find the downloaded file, right-click it, and select Run as Administrator.

  3. Follow the steps in the setup wizard.

GemView users only: You also need the GemView drivers. Download the GemView drivers, right-click the file, select Run as Administrator, and then follow the setup wizard.

Add the Topaz browser extension

Install the Topaz SigPlusExtLite extension in the browser you use for NikoHealth. If you use NikoHealth in more than one browser, install the extension in each one.

Google Chrome

  1. Open the Topaz SigPlusExtLite extension page in the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Click Add to Chrome, and then click Add extension.

  3. Go to chrome://settings/system and turn on Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.

Microsoft Edge

  1. In Edge, open the Topaz SigPlusExtLite extension page in the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Click Add to Chrome, and then click Add extension. (Edge can use extensions from the Chrome Web Store.)

  3. Go to edge://settings/system and turn on Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. If an older Topaz extension is installed, remove it first. You'll find it under Add-ons and themes > Extensions.

  2. Click Add, and then click Okay, Got it.

Note: In Firefox, the add-on must be installed separately for each Windows user who signs in to the computer.

When you're done, close your browser completely and open it again.

Test your pad

Before you use the pad in NikoHealth, test it on Topaz's sample page:

  1. Click Sign, and then sign on your pad.

  2. To accept the signature, click the green check mark.

If your signature appears, your pad is set up correctly and ready to use in NikoHealth.

Troubleshooting

If the pad doesn't work on the test page or in NikoHealth, check the following:

Did you complete every step?

If you installed only the driver, the pad won't connect. SigPlus, SigPlusExtLite, and the browser extension all need to be installed.

Did you install with "Run as Administrator"?

If not, uninstall SigPlusExtLite and run the installer again with that option.

Is an older version still installed?

Uninstall any older SigPlusExtLite versions and old browser extensions, and then reinstall.

Is the extension turned on?

Open your browser's extension settings and make sure the Topaz SigPlusExtLite extension is enabled.

Is the background setting turned on?

In Chrome or Edge, make sure the "Continue running background apps" setting from Step 3 is turned on.

Are you in the right browser?

The extension must be installed in the browser you're using for NikoHealth.

Is the pad plugged in?

Unplug the pad, plug it back in (try a different USB port), and refresh the page.

Is your browser up to date?

Older browser versions aren't supported.

If you've checked everything above and the pad still won't connect, contact NikoHealth Support (support@nikohealth.com).

Tell us which browser you're using, whether the test page worked, and which steps you've already tried.
